Here is an update on the much anticipated next version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system, Windows Mobile 7 aka Windows Phone 7.
No final confirmation, yet if it will indeed be launched at MWC next week, but if it does make an appearance at the grand event in Barcelona, word is that it will just be a preview of its interface and not a full in-depth introduction. In addition, it is now announced that the entire interface has been overhauled and replaced with a Zune HD inspired UI based on a project codenamed “Metro.” Confirming what we previously reported about Windows Phone 7 ME, they the latest round of rumors also mention that there are both on Xbox and Zune integration and support of social networks.
On the negative side, however, there won’t be NETCF backwards compatibility for older applications. Multitasking has apparently been given the boot and the Flash support is not there. Windows 7 will phone to an iPhone? One might think, but do not forget, all these have not yet been confirmed. For now, just treat it as a face to face for what to look out for when Windows 7 Phone obtain formally unveiled this month or later this year.
